Summer Reading Events

Have you heard of the “summer slide”? In education, this is the term for the tendency for kids to lose critical reading skills over their summer break.
The good news? Slowing down that summer slide is what the Kalkaska Library’s Summer Reading programming is all about.
Participate in challenges, earn prizes, and make visiting the library a regular part of your child’s summer fun!

Reading Challenges Powered by Beanstaack

In addition to engaging and educational challenged designed to keep improving your child’s reading skills over the summer,
we also host a range of fun and exciting family-friendly events throughout June and July to encourage connection and community.
From musical performances to juggling and magic, and from puppetry to guided nature visits, celebrate Summer 2024 in style!

Events are FREE, and all are welcome. We hope to see you there!

Get the Mobile App

We use Beanstack for our Summer Reading challenges. The free app is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play, or the Galaxy Store. To download the app, scan the QR code at the right, or use this link.

Once you have downloaded the app, select the option to read through your library, school, or bookstore and click ‘Find a Site.’ Search for the Kalkaska County Library by name, or just KCL.

Once you’ve found our site, click ‘Register.’ You will have the option to register an individual reader, a family, or a classroom/group. Select the applicable choice for you!

Once registered, you will be able to select challenges to participate in. Different challenges will be visible depending on participants’ age. Just select the ones you want to do, and get reading!
